Abstract

My term paper is on Programming tools build into linux. So in this term paper we can see various languages which are implemented in linux operating system. The way of execution of these languages in linux operating system is much different from other operating system. In linux we write the programm by using the terminal. For execution of all languages we have to install their compiler without compiler the program cannot be run. It can be easy way to implement the program in linux or can be difficult. But mostly Linux is not much familiar that's why it is difficult to use by others. In this term paper I use some languages like C, C++, Perl, Php nd Java in Linux. Our class teacher is Mr Gaurav Pushkarna of network operating system's subject who gave us so much help to make this term paper. I really thankful to sir.

Linux is a open source technology. Linux is an operating system like UNIX. There are so many advantages of linux like its size and speed is better than other operating systems Linux provide more security, Linux GNU software support and GUI support, and it's cost. In Linux also exist a large variety of programming languages ranging from simple shell scripting variants like csh and bash through high level interpreted languages like perl, Tcl and python to the most hardcore of them all C and C++. But in linux the compiling procedure is different from others. In linux we execute the programs on terminal. In linux you have to know about how to create or edit the files on linux and compiler have to installed into linux for example if we want to execute the c program int linux than the GNU C compiler must be installed into linux operating system. The compile is executed from the command line. Linux provide the feature of CLI(command line interface).

Managing the Linux system with C programming language

As we know that the linux system support the C language. To run the program of c language than the compiler of c must be installed in linux operating system. An easy way to installed the C compiler is by issuing the command 'which gcc' on the terminal.

Now save the program with .c extention.

In above program #include and #include are a preprocessor directive. These directive inform to the compiler that we are using the functions that are in stdio and conio library. It contain all the basic functions for basic input and output for our program.

Void main() is the starting point for the program. With these curly braces the body will be start.

The printf() function is used to print the word hello on the output screen. \n indicates the end of the string.

As we write the program in c language and save the program with .c extention.

Steps for execute the c program in linux operating system

  1. First of all goto the main menu and then the popup menu will be display.
  2. From this popup menu click on the system tools and then again popup menu will display and then click on the terminal.
  3. Then the terminal window will be open.
  4. In this window write the command $g edit and then press enter.
  5. Then you can see the gedit dialog box will appear.
  6. In this dialog box you have to write the c program and after creating the program save it with .c extention.
  7. And after this, goto the terminal window and for compiling the program type this command ($ gcc -o hello hello.c). gcc is the GNU c compiler. The -o option tells it what to name the output file and the hello.c is the source file.
  8. The output of the program produced the text HELLO to the console or screen.

Perl is also a programming language which can be heard in the context of back end web application. Perl is used for CGI programming that's why it is called by CGI Perl When in perl we create a program then we save the program with .pl extention. Perl is a high level programming language that is particularly suited to development of various types of applications including networking tools, database management applications, system administration utilities and web applications. The version of perl can be checked by this command ($ perl -v). Perl makes network programming easy by providing built in functions that can be used to create low level client/server programs from scratch. Also many modules are freely available that make programming common networking tasks simple and quick.

In linux the program of perl language should be started with "/usr/bin/perl".

And saved bwith .pl extention.

Suppose you save the program with this name "hello.pl".Then you want to execute the program in linux of perl than you have to type this

And then press enter. You can see the output on console or screen.

    Linux also can manage by using the PHP language. PHP is the Hyper Text Processor. For using the PHP language we have to install the APACHE server in the Linux operating system. Without this the php cannot implement the php script. The PHP script is saved by .php extention.

    1. First of all goto the main menu and then the popup menu will be display.
    2. From this popup menu click on the system tools and then again popup menu will display and then click on the terminal.
    3. Then the terminal window will be open.
    4. In this window write the command $g edit and then press enter.
    5. Then you can see the gedit dialog box will appear.
    6. Now in this dialog box create the php file.
