Globalization can be described as an ongoing process where ideas, cultures, believes, technology, etc, integrated each other and derived from a migration of human being. In historical aspect, globalization has become a great opportunity of culture mixture for people experience a variety of knowledge, exchange consumer goods. Although globalization has given birth to diversity and new identity in a country, the original culture and tradition is neglected.

Singapore, a metropolis city with variety of cultures, merges together and developed a new way of life for the society. As we look closer to the merging culture in Singapore, not just only Malay, Chinese, Indian, and Caucasian that play a major role in culture mixture in Singapore, but Japanese culture is also well-accepted among the society, especially in the food and beverages industry.

Even though there are numerous varieties of Japanese restaurants in Singapore, but majority of them has been designed such a way to meet the current consumer needs, and has neglected the key essence of Japanese culture and tradition itself. From the design view, the main point in Japanese dining design compromise in the journey, natural light, humility in material, low tables, and narrow entrance. However, by the restriction of time, limited space, and fast serving food requirements, Singapore has neglected all those spirits and simplified the ritual in tradition of Japanese eating environment.

Therefore, the objective is to infuse the old Japanese tradition, the ritual, and the symbolization of the Japanese design elements into a new environment, which is Singapore, in order to create a new experience for the society.

The historical of globalization can be described as an ongoing process where ideas, cultures, believes, technology, etc, integrated each other and derived from a migration of human being. As we look at the olden days, merging and mixing cultures has become a great opportunity for them to exchange knowledge and consumer goods. But on the other hands, a culture clash happened when people had the courage to conquer the minority group; therefore it can lead to warfare and confrontation.

‘When cultures receive outside influences, they ignore some and adopt others, and then almost immediately start to transform them.' (Erla Zwingle from National Geographic). In today's modern days, this quote really tells us how the globalization works in design industry.

However, there is a conflict between increasingly globalised economic and cultural relationships, and increasingly heightened sense of local culture and regional identity. It gave birth to a term of ‘glocal', for globalization and localization. In order to adapt and include local culture, Glocal is related to a design that has diversity and identity. Not just design, it also plays a part in other cultural issues, like language, religion, ethical, social, and environmental. They are integrated and become diffusion in order to give a special element in design world. Therefore, it gave a different point of view and fresh ideas to the contemporary designers.

Looking at Singapore, a metropolis city with variety of cultures merges together and developed a new way of life for the society. As we look closer to the merging culture in Singapore, not just only Malay, Chinese, Indian, and Caucasian that play a major role in culture mixture in Singapore, but Japanese culture is also well-accepted among the society, especially in the food and beverages industry. It can be proved by the increasing number of Japanese restaurants and Japanese themed food courts in Singapore.

Even though there are numerous varieties of Japanese restaurants in Singapore, but majority of them has been designed such a way to meet the current Singapore's life style as a fast-paced and time oriented country. However, by the restriction of time, limited space, and fast serving food requirement of the society, many of the key essence of Japanese culture and tradition have been left out.

Although globalization has given birth to diversity and new identity in a country, the original culture and tradition has been neglected. However, the main point in Japanese dining concept is compromising in the journey, natural light, humility in material, low tables, and passage way entrance. These design features have a significant symbolism in traditional Japanese culture. Because of the restrictions of consumer needs, all these spirit and ritual has been simplified in today's Japanese eating environment. By doing so, the old tradition of Japanese dining culture has been forgotten because of the living condition of the modern society in the metropolis city.

As a result of transformation in Japanese culture in Singapore, the intention is creating an authentic Japanese restaurant which not only emphasize on the taste of traditional Japanese cuisine, but also bringing back the experience of the tradition of Japanese dining environment. While preserving the consumers' needs, such as space limitation and time requirements, the whole concept of Japanese dining is redefined. In other words, infuse the old Japanese tradition, the ritual, and the symbolization of the Japanese design elements into a new environment, which is Singapore, in order to create a new experience for the society.

The whole design concept is derived from the program which to introduce a whole new experience of Japanese fine dining, while maintain the key essence of the Japanese tradition and also suit to the Singapore environment. An old tradition, something that historical, which has been brought to a new environment, consequently has created a new experience.

The word infusion has chosen to describe the whole concept. Infusion can be described as introducing a certain modifying element or quality. In specific details infusion is one substance influenced another substance, without changing the characteristic of the substance itself. Infusion is different from fusion, which is a mixture between two substances, they influenced each other. The simple metaphor in everyday's life is tea. Tea bag, which represents the Japanese tradition, influence the clear water, which represent Singapore, the new environment, and the tea infused to the water without changing the characteristic of the tea itself, and the end result, is the tea brewing which bring a new experience.

Having said that, Japanese tradition and culture has influenced Singapore and bring a new dining experience to the society, however, when there is a traditional Japanese restaurant in Singapore, it doesn't change the tradition itself.

In conclusion, the importance of cultural heritage is crucial for the future generations. With globalization, the tendency to preserve the tradition has been neglected because of the modernization of living condition of the society. However, globalization does bring a good point in design, in order to create diversity in cultural transformation.
