Money, the media of exchange for products and services, provides things people need, like food, clothing, shelter, or medicine. People spend most of their life looking for it. My parent, for instance, works from sunrise to sunset to get it. The more money people have the more benefits they can get, because they will be able to get a bigger and better houses, clothes, or food. Less money means stress in bill payments, gas prices, and food prices. With money, people can fulfill their material need. However, money cannot buy everything such as happiness, friendship and love, health, and appetite.
Money provides pleasure for humans, like houses, cars, or things people like in the term of toys. However, those material needs will bring temporary happiness. People can buy the newest toy they want, like iPhone. People feel pleasure when people the get the things they want. However, since it is a technology, other new things will be released and the pleasure from the precious toys will decrease. Telegraph, interviewed an Australian millionaire, Karl Rabeder. With his money, he buys 3,455 square feet villa which worth 1.4 million pound sterling, 17 hectares farmhouse which worth 613,000 pound sterling in the market, six gliders which valued at 350,000 pound sterling, and a luxury Audi A8, worth 44,000 pound sterling. He is able to have a vacation in five-star hotel in Hawaii. However, he sold his entire asset and gave it all to charity in Central and Latin America. He realizes that money avoids the happiness to come. Now, he feels lighter than ever. Many lottery winners also return their prize to charity. Once there was also an old Chinese man who won 4 million Yuan. The only thing he wants to buy is new radio. With his pension, 700 Yuan, he buys 20 Yuan lotteries every month. He did not tell his daughter that he won the lottery. He feels happier if he can help people who really need it. Money cannot buy happiness and the real happiness comes when people can give what they have to help other people.
Many people think they can create friendship with money. In business relationship, many people give a present to their business partners. In our daily life, a boyfriend tries to get his girlfriend's affection with expensive stuffs, like purses, jewelries, expensive cars, and many more. One of my friends just bought new car, Mercedes AMG C 63. My other friend asked him the reason of buying that new car, since it cost too much for a car that he would only use for the next two to three years. He simply answered that he used it as the bait for women. He knows that he has the capability to buy expensive cars, yet he tries to get a girlfriend with his parents' money. Karl Rabeder also mentions when he took a vacation to Hawaii, everyone seemed like actors and actress. During their vacation he did not see a single real person. The staff played the role of being friendly and the guests played the role of being important and nobody was real. He was really shock with the five-star life style, because he did not see the true friendliness and love that come truly from the people themselves. His money makes people act friendly to him. In Life is Beautiful, a 1997 Italian movie, tells a story about Guido Orefice, who was acted by Roberto Benigni. The movie, which is a romantic comedy at the beginning, tells the romance between Orefice with Dora. Orifice fell in love with a school teacher, Dora. Unfortunately, Dora was already forecasted with a rich guy who happened to be very loud and rude. However, Orefice still fights for her and Dora falls in love with him. Different with Dora's fianc, Orefice is not a rich guy, but he able to get Dora's heart. Power and money cannot make a person love someone but personality can. In Tuesdays with Morrie, a book that tells a story about Morrie who is a professor that suffers from Lou Gehrig's disease, Morrie talks about the importance of the existence of a family. Money and power cannot replace family who does not only give love, but also takes care of the family members (Albom, 92). Money and power might bring friend or life partner but cannot bring a relationship. People go to doctors when they not feel well. They buy medicines and vitamins to get a fit and healthy body. People can buy healthcare and vitamins with money. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor is a 2008 adventure movie which tells a story about a Han Emperor from Qin Dynasty, played by Jet Li, who turned into mummy. The Emperor united seven kingdoms into one single massive empire and raised himself emperor of the states. Han, a brutal and authoritarian warlord, buried and cursed all of his former enemy's soul to hold the construction of the Great Wall of China. Emperor Han began to feel horrified, because he thought that all he had accomplished will be lost upon his death. He heard a witch, Zi Yuan, played by Michelle Yeoh, knows the secret of immoral life and desired to have her as his mistress. The Emperor ordered his right-hand man to find her. His right-hand man found the witch and they fell in love, which made the emperor angry. The Emperor had his right-hand man drown and quartered which wounded the witch's feeling. The witch, who supposed to cast the immortality spell on the Emperor, casted a powerful curse on Emperor Han and his army. The Emperor is horrendously burnt alive and imprisoned within a shell of terracotta, together with every last one of his men, transforming them into the terracotta army. Han who was the most powerful man in China feared his death. He tried to gain an immorality life but ended up as a mummy. In Tuesdays with Morrie, Morrie thought Albom, the author, about aging and the importance of youth. Many people are afraid of aging which brings them to death, but aging also brings other value. People will do better in their life when they understand that they are going to die (Albom, 118). Morrie never buys the aging situation but it happens to him. People never buy growths, since it is the process of life. John Travolta's 16-year-old son, Jett Travolta, passed away in 2009. John Travolta who is a successful Hollywood actor cannot save his son's life with the money he has. Jett, who suffered Kawasaki diseases since he was 2, received the best treatment. He was also accompanied with guards and caretakers. However, Jett hit his head in a bathtub and he was already unconscious by the time his caretaker found him. John Travolta might be able to hire guards or caretakers with his money but he could not buy health and lifetime for his son. People cannot buy lifetime and health with their money and power.
With money people can buy any kinds of food they want. With money people can drink the most expensive coffee in the world, Luwak coffee. It is not from Jamaica or Hawaii. It is an Indonesian coffee. Luwak coffee is made from coffee beans which are eaten, digested, and then excreted by civets which gives unique flavor to the beans and removes the bitter flavor. Luwak coffee bean costs about 600 dollars a pound and 50 dollars per cup. With money, people can enjoy the most expensive coffee in the world. The Grand Opulence sundae from Serendipity is the most expansive sundae in the world. The sundae is made of scoops of the richest Tahitian vanilla bean ice cream mixed with Madagascar vanilla and covered in 23K edible gold. The sundae is also sprinkled with the world's most expensive chocolate, Amedei Porceleana, and covered with pieces of rare Chuao chocolate, which is from cocoa beans harvested by the Caribbean Sea on Venezuela's coast. The masterpiece is served with exotic candied fruits from Paris, gold dragnets, truffles and Marzipan Cherries. It is topped with a tiny glass bowl of Grand Passion Caviar, exclusive dessert caviar which is made from salt-free American Golden caviar, known for its sparkling golden color. It's sweetened and mixed with fresh passion fruit, orange and Armagnac. The sundae is served in Harcourt crystal glass with an 18K gold spoon. This sundae costs a thousand dollars and about once a month, quite a few people have the money to eat this ice cream. With money people can eat the most expensive ice cream sundae in the world. Money provides the most luxurious food, but people cannot enjoy the food which they want to eat. Diana, Princess of Spencer, had problem with eating desire. With her status and her financial, she could buy any kind of food she wants. However, the stress she had made her unable to enjoy what she could have. Due to her husband's relationship with other women and the media tension, she suffers from eating disorder, bulimia, which makes her skinnier. Her money and power cannot bring her back the appetite to eat. Many Hollywood Stars also have the same problem. The money they have cannot bring their appetite for them. Money might offer better quality of food but money cannot offer appetite.
Even though money is important but money cannot buy several things, like, happiness, relationship, lifetime, health, and appetite. Sometimes money might bring bad effect on human life, such as addiction, whether it is addiction to money or other items. People might not even realize it that they were being controlled by the money. Money which brings troubles to human is not everything. Health, lifetime, relationship, happiness, and appetite are the most important thing in human life.
