December 21, 2012 is the end of the world. What will happen on this particular day? The large earthquakes occur around the world lead to crack continents. Many famous skyscrapers and building are being destroyed. Volcano eruptions and giant tsunamis which shake the world, these are some scenes from the Hollywood disaster movie, 2012. This is not the first time people predict doomsday. In 1982, the planets lined up and created magnetic forces which caused many earthquakes resulting doomsday predictions. People also predicted doomsdays in May 5 2000, all the planets would line up as 1982 (220 Date for, http://www.bible.ca/pre-date-setters.htm). People had predicted the date of doomsday but nothing happened. So 2012 is just another prediction of the end of the world, but it will not happen in 2012.
The movie, 2012, known by people around the world promoting movies seems to confirm this disaster, rather than normal fiction movie. The movie leads to create some of fake website full of unreal and imaginary information. They make people frightened and buy their books to find out solutions (Johnson, http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-sci-movie17-2009oct17,0,4123180.story).
"Ask an Astrobiogist" is a website that people can ask and get answer from Astrobiogist who work for NASA. More than 2,500 questions have been ask about 2012 doomsday and other disaster scenarios (Billing, http://astrobiology.nasa.gov/ask-an-astrobiologist/intro/nibiru-and-doomsday-2012-questions-and-answers). These are some astronomical or phenomena that people worry about 2012: changes in the sun's magnetic field shift in polarity, solar storms, and impact of asteroid etc (Marrison, Page 4). People get so frighten about doomsday. NASA scientist David Morrison who was cited by Billing said, ""Now I'm getting a dozen a day. Two teenagers said they did not want to see the end of the world so they were thinking of ending their lives" (Billing, http://astrobiology.nasa.gov/ask-an-astrobiologist/intro/nibiru-and-doomsday-2012-questions-and-answers).
NASA scientists claim that doomsday is a hoax and lacks evidence. No credible evidence from scientists, Astrobiologists in books, movies, documentaries and on internet can prove it. Don Yeomans, a NASA senior research scientist who is cited by Townsend once said, "There apparently is a great deal of interest in celestial bodies, and their locations and trajectories at the end of the calendar year 2012. Now, I for one love a good book or movie as much as the next guy. But the stuff flying around through cyberspace, TV and the movies is not based on science. There is even a fake NASA news release out there" (Townsend, http://www.nasa.gov/topics/earth/features/2012.html).
Mayan calendar has been used for more than 2,000 years and it has been accurate in the past with other planetary predictions. Some people believe that the last day of the Mayan Calendar is the end of the world. Eagle Bowl, the sacred calendar of the Mayans, Zapotec prophecy on the Eagle Bowl, states: "After Thirteen Heavens of Decreasing Choice, and Nine Hells of Increasing Doom, the Tree of Life shall blossom with a fruit never before known in the creation, and that fruit shall be the New Spirit of Men." (The End of, http://www.greatdreams.com/end-world.htm). There are seven ages in the Mayan calendar, called the Seven Ages of Man. The fifth age of Mayan Calendar which began in 3113 BC will end on December 23, 2012 or in the Maya calendar, 18.104.22.168.0, it was the age that humanity will realize its spiritual destiny. The end date of the world and only a few people will be survive (The End of, http://www.greatdreams.com/end-world.htm).
Some people believe that a dark comet is coming closer to Earth. In 1983, Comet IRAS-Araki -Alcock passed by Earth at a distance of 5 million km, it was the closest known comet for 200 years. "It had only 1 per cent of its surface active," says Napier. Comet Borrelly who is cited by Bast, visited by NASA's Deep Space 1 probe in 2001, who found extremely dark patches over much of its surface which is known as dark comet. In early 2009, many news articles reported the research of British astronomer from Cardiff University, Bill Napier and David Asher. According to their research, "There is a case to be made that dark, dormant comets are a significant but largely unseen hazard," says Napier (Bast, http://survive2012.com/index.php/comet-caesar.html). They warned that some of these comets may still travel around the solar system. The rate numbers of bright comets enter the solar around 3000, but only 25 are known. Many comets were lost because they had lost their luminosity, for example 18D/Perrine-Mrko. It was seen in 1896, 1909, 1955 and 1969 then it vanished. Many lost comets could be coming close to Earth in 2012, but without observations recently, there is no way of accurately calculating their location and where they are. At present, one of NASA's programs "Spaceguard Survey", which aims to spot Near-Earth Objects greater than 1 kilometer in diameter. It had $4.1 million per year budget from 2006 through to 2012. NASA might know something and they keep it secret (Bast, http://survive2012.com/index.php/comet-caesar.html).
The mysterious planet X or Nibiru, when NASA launched the Infrared Astronomical Satellite or IRAS, the astronomers calculated Planet X was located over 50 million miles away from Earth but in 2004 Planet X was determined to be only 7 million miles away. The unknown Planet X was moving closer to the Earth. Some people took photograph of Planet X in Japan on February 28, 2008. Some predicted in 2012, people will see Planet X and the sun as two suns, no later than 2011. The near miss Planet X to the Earth will cause Earth to stop rotation for 5.9 days, and then followed by pole shift of the Earth. It will disrupt the Earth's magnetic core and displacement of the Earth's crust (The 2012 Warming, Planet http://www.2012warning.com/planet-x.htm).
Some people may not agree with this proposition, Mayan Calendar predicted the last day of the world. Calendar is use to keep track of the passage of time and Mayan Calendar is same as other calendar (Bilings, http://astrobiology.nasa.gov/ask-an-astrobiologist/intro/nibiru-and-doomsday-2012-questions-and-answers). Brilliant Mayan astronomers made a calendar that accurately tracked every planet in its orbit and show date such as lunar eclipse; however, it can't predict the future. The archaeologist said, "The Maya calendar does not end in 2012, as some have said, and the ancients never viewed that year as the time of the end of the world." Aveni, Author of the End of Time: The Maya Mystery of 2012 which is cited by Handwerk once said, "The idea is that time gets renewed, that the world gets renewed all over againoften after a period of stressthe same way we renew time on New Year's Day or even on Monday morning," So Mayan Calendar end and it continue to count new period again just like calendar move to January 1 (http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2009/11/091106-2012-end-of-world-myths.html).
Clark Chapman who is cited by Townsend, the Southwest Research Institute in Boulder, Colordo,Spaceguard Survey carried out by NASA astronomers disagree on the dark how close the dark comet is to the Earth and NASA tried to keep it as secret. It claimed, "The dark comet would absorb sunlight very well and it should be possible to detect from the heat" (Krupp, http://www.nasa.gov/topics/earth/features/2012.html). He determined that there are no comets as large as the one that killed the dinosaurs, the last big impact was 65 million years ago, and that led to the extinction of the dinosaurs. All this work is done openly everyday on NASA NEO Program Office website (Krupp, http://www.nasa.gov/topics/earth/features/2012.html).
The other side argues that the near miss of Planet X or Nibiru is false. IRAS was discovered by many sources in 1983, but none of these sources was Nibiru or Planet X. The photos and videos on the internet are false images of the Sun caused by internal reflections in the lens (Billing, http://astrobiology.nasa.gov/ask-an-astrobiologist/intro/nibiru-and-doomsday-2012-questions-and-answers.) If a large planet Nibiru enters the inner solar system in 2012, thousands of astronomers all over the world would track it. There is no reversal of magnetic polarity any time amd there are no any bad effects on life and when it really happens. So the pole shift of the Earth disrupted the Earth's magnetic core and displacement of the Earth's crust is probably impossible (Fraknoi, Astronomy Beat September 21, 2009).
In a conclusion nothing will happen on December 21, 2012. These are internet hoaxes which deceive people by selling their e-book and equipment for survival to frightened people about it. A spokesman for Sony Pictures, Steve Elzer, who is cited by Johnson once said, "We believe consumers understand that the advertising is promoting a fictional film" (Johnson, http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-sci-movie17-2009oct17,0,4123180.story). Mayan Calendar, the dark comet, and Nibiru, are fiction without any evidences. "There is no factual basis for these claims," NASA said in a Q&A posting cited by Townsend, "Obviously, it does not exist. Credible scientists worldwide know of no threat associated with 2012 and our planet has been getting along just fine for more than four billion years" (Krupp, http://www.nasa.gov/topics/earth/features/2012.html).
