Information System and its security has its significant role in Healthcare organisation. In Healthcare the Electronic Health Record (HER) which stores patients information is very sensitive which has to be managed carefully to avoid unauthorized access from others. The quality of service depends on the information management system which has been used to store and manage patient's information and shared among the required departments. It concentrates to make the information accessible and available between users of the information. This course work explores the importance of Electronics Health Records (EHR) and the ways these systems are accessed across various tiers of management and makes the business activities smooth. Here the Blekinge Health Care Systems has been investigated to prove the importance of Integrated Information System. It uses the protected systems to manage and share sensitive information across various levels of management.


Technology and information systems is growing rapidly to mange sensitive information more carefully and to protect from unauthorised access and usage. Information system age has created lot of tools and systems to manage information to make decisions provide information across departments when required and improves the quality of service provided. The patient's information is stored in the form of Electronic Health Records (EHR) and well organised to give optimal support to everyone at all states. This aims in providing good care from its right information and at the right place and right time.

Aim and Objectives:

The main aim and objectives of this coursework is to prove that the integrated MIS assists optimisation under three main functions

v Centralised information across various departments

v Helps in faster decision making at various levels of management

v Serve as the factor for competent management process.

These objectives were analysed in service industry, of Blekinge Healthcare system through various measures of theoretical framework to possible identify the role of healthcare systems in service industry.


In olden days, the information for an organization have been done manually, they were not using the daily process to store the information for them. They don't have more technology to store the daily information for their organization but they were in position to store their everyday's routine information which is very essential to maintain their information. So this thing was a great hassle for them to develop their organization, the time when they were struggling to transfer and store their information of their organization The MIS have been started to exist throughout the world which was spreading quicker. They felt it was faster and reliable to MIS. The MIS made their work easier and simple to store their daily routine information which was carried out in the organization. Not only the Managing information system made the work efficient but as well its it is used take care and to measure their accounts, store their employees details material resource and everything in safe hand. (Staires RM and Reynolds G 2007)

Functions of Managing Information System:

Managing Information System is otherwise known as information technology management in which technical tools are used to administer information across the required group. This differentiates from Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) which is not decisive for making decision. In general Management Information System collects, transmits, process, store and maintain information for future using technological or computer peripherals. There are a variety of functions in MIS, like,

Ø Data Processing, includes diffusion, collection, storage, which can be accessed any time in future

Ø Functions of Prediction, as it predicts the future with historical information and investigating rationally

Ø Function of Plan, provides a stage for all departments in planning report to attain management goals

Ø Function of Control, monitors and controls the operations to help analysing the reasons after deviation

Ø Function of assistance; serve in instant decision making supporting other mathematical models and assessment of facts and statistics.

Healthcare systems are the most vulnerable systems in any country where it's effectively maintained to achieve the privacy and safety to patient's electronic information. Information security has gain prominence and it's the main requirements of CIA. The following are some of the characteristics in fulfilling the security needs and requirements.

Ø Availability of right information at the right time at the right place

Ø Integrity of being unaltered and reliable

Ø Its so safe ad secure and unavailable for unauthorized users

Ø The operational performance is regularly monitored to check its accountability

The information system has been an expensive one in the industry as the technological tools and its security and maintenance are very expensive, and the EU health system has been in its changing stage over the last decade to cope with the organisational culture which has going into international levels and multinationals (Mumford, 1991). The traditional systems were concerned on small initiatives and connect only a few departments and not the whole system. The new technology and its advancement has improved the ways it works and it has connected the whole national system so to improve the level of services they provide to the national public. The large scale health information system has been developed using legacy systems. The European Union has been merging all the national healthcare services, to improve the effectiveness of the services to everyone in the European Union. This uses various tools like Electronic Patient Record (EPR) which is accessed by clinicians in providing proper care to their patients. The EPR interface is using Integrated Clinical Work Station (ICWS) to enhance the performance of operational management.

Impact of MIS upon middle managers of Blekinge Healthcare System:

It has been clearly proved by most researchers that the introduction of Managing Information System has increased the operational output and has become the major tool for everyone in the management for various purposes including planning, decision making, monitoring and controlling (Dopson and Stewart, 1990). The Patient Administration System (PAS), Hospital Information Support System (HISS), etc are some of the major systems that has been introduced in the healthcare services side to improve the national health services, including both private and public (Drucker 1988)

Supply Chain management and MIS:

Managing Information System and Supply Chain management are the two major factors that connect the various departments to carry out smoothly the functions of providing health related services to everyone in the country. The Supply chain management has then renewed via Value chain management which has been done by implementing Managing Information Systems in the organisational structure. The MIS has been framed to work in real time and provides real time support to everyone in the supply chain and it tracks the movement of products or services along the chain and its progress. MES is the system which is implemented the possible time it will take to reach the concerned place. This decreases downtime and improves the performance.


The Integrated Management Information System (MIS) is growing importance in the current trend, where the meaning of information is at its high and its security. The information once accessible for convinced cluster of people can be swapped with others for various activities including management, operation, operation, etcetera and includes the security importance of the system and its expenses to maintain the real time database and its protection.
