With the development of economic globalization, tourism and hospitality industry has emerged as the fastest growing industry in the world. The increasing number of people aspires to know more about them. I am going to state the definition and discuss the relationship between tourism and hospitality industry.

Tourism industry is one of the largest industries in the world,. According to the definition devised by WTO, tourism comprises the activities of persons traveling to and staying in places outside their usual environment for not more than one consecutive year for leisure, business or other purposes. () Tourism industry is fragmented and varied in size and range, and it related a remarkable number of organizations directly or indirectly, the travel agency, tour operator, transportation, restaurant, hotel.etc. In recent years, the development of tourism industry is more flexible and diverse.

Just as tourism industry, the hospitality is broader in scope. Just as the Oxford English Dictionary describes, hospitality means “the reception and entertainment of guests, visitors or strangers with liberality and good will.” (Barrows and Powers 2009) It basically refers to the organization providing a package of service that includes arrival, accommodation, food service, transportation and departure for the people away from home. Hospitality industry is not only includes hotels but also refers to other kind of products or services.

There is a strong and complex link between tourist hospitality and tourism. Both tourism industry and hospitality industry are belonging to the service industry. They cover a range of organizations and a part of consumer market in common, the accommodation, transportation, and restaurant.etc. Firstly, the significance of tourism to hospitality is obvious that the hospitality industry share a huge part of sales from tourists. For example, the hospitality industry in Beijing had to expand to meet the requirements of the Olympic reception. In addition, it is necessary to take the accommodation into account to the travel agency and tour operator in the process of a destination planning, and it is true that they are beneficial each other in marketing. They normally are willing to work together for a cost-reduction and information sharing. Furthermore, many tourism destinations, such as theme park, are operated with the hospitality component, for instant, the food service.

On the other hand, they are two dependent industries relatively. The hospitality industry is apart from the tourism industry. For example, a restaurant can move regularly relying on the local population without worry too much about the tourists, and a hotel can meet the needs of operation by the political staff and conference reception.

In conclusion, the hospitality and tourism industry should strengthen cooperation on the basis of dependent development to cope with opportunities and crises.
