Enabling network in remote areas encounters the problems that the survivals of the remote areas are experiencing due to lack of proper communication with the outside world. Network enabling is providing the internet and telephone services to the remote areas. The minimum requirements to provide services to these areas are to be considered. The service provider's requirements count for establishing the network at these places. The importance of enabling network in these areas is being identified by the governments of different nations individually in order to develop the nation on whole contributing to the economic and social development of the world. The interaction from rural areas through this network lets the service provider to provide much better service.
Aims and Objectives:
The main objectives of this study are
- To study the rural or remote areas present situation in term of electronic communication.
- To find out the reasons and responsible factors for the lack of proper communication means to these areas.
- To list out the advantages that come through if proper network is established.
- To jot down the basic requirements to be met with so that the service provider can set up a good network service.
- To consider the economical factors and other factors that effect the better performance of the network set up.
- To find out the issues that are to be met by the service provider if considerable number of consumer are not available.
About the Topic:
What is network?
Things or objects interconnected in a system is called a network. Network can comprise of things or people. Generally, communication between anything is what is meant as network. Proper communication between them enables the proper functioning or proper utilising of the network or the system. A communication system has a group of stations of broadcast, all of which are transmit the similar programs.
A network can also be a railway network, where in the different railway lines or channels intersect with each other.
An electronic network is a system of interconnected electronic circuits.
According to information technology, a series or a collection points which are interconnected to each other by some paths called as communication paths is called a network. These network most of the times are again connected to some other networks and can also hold subnetworks. (www.searchnetworking.com)
What are remote areas?
Any area of part of a land which is far away from the cities or any land away from industrial areas are called as rural areas or remote areas.
Generally, locating these places is difficult, as there could hardly, be any communication possible with these areas. The rural areas or the remote areas basically have no proper communication facilities, like telephone, internet and railways. The only means, they get access to the outer world is the post service and the news paper.
The rural public or the remote public experience the lack of proper information or knowledge that they must have in order to build up their lives to a higher standards
LAN( local area network):
It is connection of several computers to each other, which costs very low. The LAN can facilitate many advantages like sharing of resources.
Local area network has two types
- wired network, using cables constructed depending on the Ethernet technology, in this generally RJ45 cables are used.
- A wireless network using WiFi technology.
WAN (wide area network):
It is a franchise made with computers interconnected from different geographic locations. A large area can be covered using WAN network. In a WAN connection, the basic requirements are routers, DSLs, and internet service provider, hubs.
Benefits of Enabling network in remote areas:
Generally in rural areas, the literacy rate is not considerably accepted. This low literacy rate is definitely due to the lack of network or communication. If there has been the proper network there would have been better work opportunities.
Also, in these areas the major occupation is agriculture, or poultry. Even these occupations are being effected due to lack of current information. These issues can be overcome if the internet services or the television services are provided through which they can know the basic prices of the crops and can enjoy their profits. These price differences doesn't only effect the single individual but inturn effects all the labour who work for the individual.
Also, these services will enable the farmer to harvest the suitable crop according to the weather and soil fertility conditions from the information provided by the online services. By this there can be a considerable increment in the agriculture production too helping in the overall development.
Weather forecast information can also be sent to the remote areas as part of disaster management service or natural calamity prediction sector. So that the effected or to be effected areas can be treated with safety measures. Communication in this issue plays a key role to reduce the disaster caused due to the natural calamities like floods, earthquakes etc,.
New evolving techniques in agriculture for irrigation can be implemented for better results and effective production of crop.
Research approach is the plan or procedure applied in order to study a subject or specific topic. These approaches will also include studying practical situations and observing the changes and consequences during the study. The common approach to take up a research is to include surveys and observation on the topic.
Two ways of processing the research process are
- Qualitative and Quantitative approach
- Case study.
Case study is an approach which takes up past incidents. It can be processed even by investigating the subject to a core level, gathering the proofs and evidence to support the investigation. This gives a quantitative information. The unique purpose of any case study is to support the study and to relate them to the aims and objectives. This sort of approach enables much better understanding of the current level of the research by studying the available history on the specific topic.
Case study enables us to recognise the problems and solutions to sort them out. It gives a better knowledge about the incidents happened in the past.
Research approach can be done in two ways qualitative and quantitative approaches.
Qualitative approach may be explained as examining the issue on which the research is to be done. It includes collecting information from the people who will be benefited or effected by the research. It also includes observing what people do. This is much more effective research than that of the quantitative approach. It requires and uses multiple ways to collect the data by concentrating on a group of people. This is based on case studies which will let the researcher reanalyse the information to make a crystal clear understanding of the research.
Quantitative research is done by enquiring few framed questions to a selected group or to the people who may have experienced the issue on which the research is carried on. Quantitative research is framed based on the numerical value, where as the qualitative research is framed on the materialistic information gathered.
Both of these methods helps to get a basic idea on enabling network in remote areas and they will also let us know, the advantages by enabling network in these areas. Both of these will lead us to achieve the objectives of the research. Case studies which are considered as a qualitative approach gives a brief idea on the current situation. It exposes the problems in the topic that occurred in the past. Whereas the quantitative questionnaire helps to catch up the problems the public is facing without proper communication.
Enabling network in remote areas helps in development of the standard of living of the people in those areas. This in turn develops the nation and the world economy and social growth.
The research is divided into two chapters. The first chapter gives the explanation about the project proposal and the later chapter details the literature review. The further topics in the research would be explained based on the necessity.
Quantitative opinion gathering can be done.
Case studies can also be taken up in order to resource the research.
Books, online services, articles and journals can also facilitate the research to a core level.
