Hill Station: Haflong

Located around 85 kilometres away from Silchar, Haflong is a tiny town that has a lot of tribal influence. Haflong inhibits Naga, Mizo and Himar tribes who earn their living by growing oranges and pineapples which are a main produce of Haflong. Most people speak Assamese in Haflong but English and Hindi is also widely spoken. The culture of Haflong is a mix of Assamese and of all the tribes that reside here. You will find a good cultural presence of all these tribes in this town, in terms of handicrafts sold, the eateries and outfits of people roaming in the streets.
Places to See in Haflong
Haflong Lake: This is one of the main attractions of the town. This lake adds to the beauty of this magnificent place. You can go for boating in the lake.
Jatinga: Situated nine kilometres away from Haflong, this place is covered with rare Blue Vandas Orchids. There is a very beautiful lake here, surrounded by great natural beauty. This is the place where according to the local legend; migratory birds come to "suicide." But the truth is that during autumn, birds become disoriented on a moonless night as the air becomes foggy. Taking advantage of this, the locals catch these birds to eat them.
Umrangshu: Located around 112 kilometres away from Haflong, this is North-East India's biggest Hydro power plant. You will also find a hot water spring here which is believed to have medicinal properties. Whether you are boating in the lake or enjoying the hot water spring, the beauty of this place will follow you everywhere.

Haflong is one of those places where it is good to not to have much to do. But you can still spend your time by -
Paragliding- This is the best way to enjoy the beauty of this place. Fly like a bird on the picturesque valley and slopes of Haflong. If you are not afraid of heights, you won't regret this.
Wandering around: There is no benefit of coming to Haflong, if you don't intend to roam around and trek on one of the many trails in this town. Wander around in the mesmerizing views of this beautiful place. Considering the fresh air of this place, walking here is also great for your health.
Climate of Haflong
Haflong is the best when it comes to climate and day to day weather. Temperature remains around 15 to 30 degrees Celsius during summer which is quite pleasant as compared to many other cities in India during this time. Winters are relatively cooler with temperature ranging from 7 to 18 degrees Celsius. The best months to visit this town are from October to April.
How to reach Haflong
You can take flight to the Dimapur airport which is nearest airport to Haflong. You can also fly to Guwahati (355 kilometres) or Jorhat (364 kilometres) and then, travel the rest of the distance by road. You will get many Assam roadways buses or you can also hire a cab to reach the town. You can also take the train to Guwahati to reach Haflong.
